Vehicle: 1994 Chevy Truck
where actuall is the cylinoide located. The truck won't start. checked battery and cables they are fine. Starter just replaced last year. Was suggested to by pass the cylinoide and try starting if it starts then the cylinoide is bad but do not know where the cylinoide is located.

The solenoid is located on top of the starter. You need to reach down around the passenger side of the engine to get to it. Or make up a jumper wire where you can attach the big wire from the battery too the purple wire on the solenoid. This should make the starter engage.

good answer here but the truth is you will probably end up replacing both though alot of times its easier this way and sometimes its the only way.

If you try to bypass the solenoid with a jumper wire you might want to place a push button in the wire connection,there is a lot of current in the wires that will cause sparking and its not the easiest place to be working from anyway ( best to hook up from the bottom ).If the wires make a connection to something grounded you could fry other electrical components.It would be easier to just drop the starter and replace the solenoid.
