does using an autozone thermostat as oppossed to a dealer thermostat make a difference?

As long as it is the same temperature range and installed correctly, there should be no difference. Are you sure all the air is out of the cooling system? Make sure the coolant fill cap is the highest point in the cooling system and take cap off. Idle car until it is normal temperature. Shut off, allow to cool and see if it is still full. If not, top off, place cap back on and drive.
