What Sensors That Need To Be Replaced?
Vehicle: 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis
Engine: V8 4.6 L
Transmission: Automatic
Drivetrain: RWD
Current Mileage: 133000
I HEAR IT IS GOOD TO REPLACE BOTH OXYGEN SENSORS ON VEHICLES THAT HAVE MORE THAN 100000 MILES BEACAUSE THEY REDUCE GAS MILEAGE WHEN THEY GET OLD....IS THERE ANY OTHER SENSORS THAT AFFECT VEHICLE PERFORMANCE OR ECONOMY OTHER THAN OXYGEN SENSORS...(I MEAN SENSORS THAT HAVE A DIRECT EFFECT ON THE VEHICLE PERFORMANCE)

AND WHAT ABOUT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER..I HEAR THAT REPLACING IT WITH A NEW ONE WOULD INCREASE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ENGINE SINCE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER GET CARBON BUILD UP WITH AGE

Converters will not get carboned up if the engine has been running properly. Thet burn at such a high temperature the residue is ash and flows out the exhaust. All the sensors that affect fuel management, air intake and vehicle speed have a direct relationship to the fuel mileage and performance. You need to do a lot of testing and checking before replacing sensors. Unless you have really deep pockets and just want to replace them on a whim.
